Reviewing Some Mulch Spreader Designs
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

Believe it or not, a mulch spreader comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Since this tool is supposed to work on many different surfaces and areas, a mulch spreader must adjust correspondingly. Hence, manufacturers have come up with a lot of ways by which this tool can best serve its purpose.

Areas to be serve vary is soil composition and size. The latter, of course, is the bigger consideration - figuratively and literally. The larger the area, the more powerful the tool that is needed. Convenience, after all, is one of the benefits that a mulch spreader should be able to provide.

Let's take a look at some of these designs.

* Mower design. The mower design is built like a vacuum cleaner, where the operator is supposed to control the mechanism via the handle, and sweep the area by maneuvering the tool in the portions where mulch is desired to be spread. These are also the tools that are the most affordable.

* Tractor design. A tractor design looks exactly like what its name implies. It's a mini tractor that carries mulch at the back. The idea is that the back of the tractor spreads the mulch on the areas within the route of the same. This is time and labor efficient, as all the operator has to do is drive. But of course, tractor designed spreaders will cost more.

* Trailer design. If you can't afford another tractor just for the purpose of spreading mulch, then a trailer is the next best thing. All you have to do is to attach the trailer to a tractor you already own, drive your tractor, and let the trailer do the mulch spreading.

Every mulch spreader type enumerated above comes with its own hydraulic system that will allow you to control the release, and consequently the thickness of the mulch pile, you will spread over the target area. Some of these tools even come with their own speed control for some automated punch that will make the process even easier.

The main selling point of these tools, however, is uniformity. You can rest assured that the mulch you will spread over the target area will be uniformly distributed, resulting in an even and balanced layer of mulch across your garden, regardless of its size. Additionally, because of this very same process, you can also rest assured that the mulch will be firmly placed, and not even the wind will be able to blow it from its intended spot.

 Answers to Midsummer Flower Woes

I COULD blame the weather for my garden troubles: the late frost, the drenching spring, the summer heat and drought. Or I could blame the men who trampled the young plants as they installed a fence around the garden's borders. And I could hold the woodchuck, moles and insects accountable for the gnawed roots, broken stems and wasted foliage.
